Name: Heidi Cocking, author of NYLon Black Book
Home Town: North of M25
Current Location: Battersea, London
Dream Home: We’re currently in the process of buying our first home – a Victorian flat in London’s Battersea (up-and-coming, we hope!). But with all the reno work involved, and a baby on the way, I’m daydreaming about upping sticks for a few months and heading to California in search of sunshine!
Luxury Item: Anything by Kate Spade (Baby is already on board with my healthy obsession, as he has a very chic striped nappy bag)
Likes: Foraging for exciting places to feature on NYLon Black Book; hotel beds / sheets / pillows; a good British pub
Dislikes: The word ‘issue’ with emphasis on the ‘iss’; sales calls; TV’s in bars/restaurants
The best piece of advice I’ve been given: Anything my Mum tells me is gospel
The NYLon Lifestyle Manifesto
We do what we can with what we’ve got, be it a room we rent or a studio apartment – right now it’s home.
We take pride in our home, but we’re not uptight, flawless or precious.
We like to have fun in our home, and enjoy it with other people.
We believe a home should be a sanctuary to escape to, a place where you can open the door to a place you recognise as your own.
We love experiencing new places and taking ideas home.
As much as we love peace and quiet, we think our home is more fun when filled with people that make us happy.
Sometimes we eat on our laps, spill things, don’t make our bed, forget to hang out the laundry – but we scrub up well.
We are always moving things around and changing our mind – it’s our prerogative.
We give it a go, but we don’t mind when someone helps.
We think perfect is boring and safe.
We love the style and ease of imperfection.
